Project Dastaan: The Long Road Home

The Quint takes a look at Project Dastaan, an ambitious endeavor to document the stories of dozens of refugees of the 1947 Partition of India while they are still able to tell them. Despite surviving a displacement of millions of people, many refugees have not been able to return home for up to seven decades. In addition to capturing the lived experiences of the greatest human migration of all time, the team behind the project also wanted to provide a way back to the homeland for the participating storytellers. Memories were matched with modern locations, allowing for the creation of guided 360º videos that transport the viewer to places that have followed them since childhood.

Assignment Idea: A Trip Down Memory Lane

Description

As the saying goes, “home is where the heart is.” The places in which we grow up affect how we relate to the world for the rest of our lives. Thinking back on your own younger days, what place(s) do you recall with fondness? What memories of this location stand out when you close your eyes and think of your time there?

Imagine taking a friend with you to this formative place or these formative places via 360º imagery. As the tour guide, it will be your job to inform them of the significance of this location using a variety of cues. What would you choose to highlight, how might you draw attention, what sorts of supporting material would you include?
